Senior Internship
Senior Internship
The Social Studies summer coursework for high school students at all other grade levels will consist of preparation for History Fair participation. However, while participation in History Fair is highly encouraged for members of the Senior Class, it is not required. Your summer coursework will involve properly preparing yourself for one of the most rewarding and beneficial social experiences of your time at McKeel Academy of Technology, your senior internship.
The intent of the senior internship project is to provide our seniors with a realistic career experience that will better prepare each participant for future career endeavors. It is important that students try to use this experience to their advantage. While all students benefit by participating in the Senior Internship program, those who find the experience most fulfilling are the students who take the initiative to secure an internship position with an individual (or company) in a career/profession in which the student has a genuine interest. The intent of the summer coursework is to give you some time to do just that.
Overall, your senior internship project is worth 1,085 points (See Senior Internship Assignments). The following summer coursework will be worth 245 points, or approximately 22.5% of your overall senior internship project grade. It is due on the second day of your return from summer vacation (Friday, August 19th). This summer coursework will include the following components:
1. Senior Internship Application (25 points)
2. Personal Profile (35 points)
3. Business Profile (35 points)
4. Signed letter of interest/intent from participating local business (100 points) *
5. Signed and completed Parent Permission Form and Student Contract (50 points)
Appropriate links to the forms and formats you will need are provided. The main focus of the summer work is to determine what it is that you want to do and to find a local business that is willing to provide you with that opportunity.
